Teso College Aloet has taken a bold and commendable step in advancing cultural heritage by contributing UGX 500,000 toward the construction of the Ere Iteso (Iteso Palace). This milestone contribution positions the institution as the first secondary school in Uganda to support the initiative.
The donation provides an early boost to the ambitious fundraising drive spearheaded by the Iteso Cultural Union (ICU), which aims to mobilize resources for the construction of a permanent cultural home for the Iteso people. The palace, projected to cost approximately UGX 52 billion, is envisioned as a lasting symbol of unity, identity, and pride.
Confirmation of the contribution was made by the ICU Minister for Information, Stephen Ojacor, who expressed appreciation for the school’s leadership:
“We thank Teso College Aloet for being the first secondary school to raise UGX 500,000 towards the palace construction. We have confirmed receiving your contribution in our bank account. Thank you.”
In a subsequent engagement, Ojacor emphasized the Cultural Union’s commitment to transparency and accountability, assuring stakeholders that all contributions will be properly documented and regularly communicated to the public.
“The institution will ensure total transparency and clarity in all financial matters regarding the project implementation. We shall continue updating the public on any further contributions,” he added.
The leadership of Teso College Aloet framed the donation as more than a financial gesture—highlighting it as a reflection of cultural responsibility and institutional pride. The school’s headmaster, Julius Opasso, underscored the importance of the cultural institution in shaping society:
“As the Teso College family, we value the contributions of the cultural institution in the moral shaping of society. We recognize its historical significance and are proud to support this noble cause, knowing that we are all subjects of His Royal Highness Papa Emorimor.”
The gesture has been widely received as a rallying call to other institutions—both educational and corporate—to actively participate in the palace construction initiative. By stepping forward early, Teso College Aloet has positioned itself as a leader in cultural preservation and community engagement.
The ICU is currently finalizing a comprehensive fundraising campaign targeting individuals, institutions, development partners, and the diaspora. The goal is to mobilize sufficient resources to bring the Ere Iteso project to fruition.
Once completed, the palace will serve as a central hub for cultural activities, leadership, and heritage preservation, providing a permanent home for the Iteso Cultural Union and a lasting legacy for future generations.
This significant contribution also coincides with a major milestone for the institution, as Teso College Aloet marks 72 years of excellence, maintaining its reputation as one of the top-performing schools in the Teso region.
As momentum builds, the school’s contribution stands as a powerful reminder that transformative initiatives often begin with a single step, inspiring collective responsibility in preserving cultural identity.
