The Iteso Cultural Union (ICU) has finalized preparations for the long-awaited Groundbreaking Ceremony and Fundraising Launch for the construction of Ere Iteso, the future cultural home of the Iteso people.
The historic event will take place on Saturday, 7th March 2026, at the ICU Headquarters in Soroti, Uganda, starting at 9:00 AM.
Chief Guest Representing the President
The ceremony will be presided over by the Vice President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E. Jessica Rose Epel Alupo, who will attend as the Chief Guest representing the President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
As a proud daughter of Teso and an Ateso herself, the Vice President’s presence carries deep cultural significance and reflects the close connection between national leadership and the cultural heritage of the Iteso people.
Royal Presence and Cultural Leadership
The ceremony will also be graced by His Royal Highness Paul Sande Emolot Etomeileng, the King of the Iteso people, together with members of the cultural leadership, the cabinet and council of the kingdom, elders, government officials, and distinguished guests.
Their presence will symbolize unity, cultural pride, and a shared commitment toward preserving and promoting the heritage of the Iteso people.
Ere Iteso – A Cultural Home for the Iteso People
The construction of Ere Iteso marks a historic milestone in strengthening and safeguarding the culture, traditions, and identity of the Iteso community. Once completed, Ere Iteso will serve as a central cultural complex and heritage center, hosting cultural administration, heritage preservation, community gatherings, cultural exhibitions, and educational activities for future generations.
This project represents the collective vision of the Iteso people to build a permanent cultural institution that celebrates their rich heritage and promotes unity across the region and the global diaspora.
Launch of the Fundraising Campaign
The event will also officially launch a fundraising campaign aimed at mobilizing resources for the construction and development of Ere Iteso.
The Iteso Cultural Union calls upon all Iteso sons and daughters within Teso, across Uganda, and throughout the global diaspora, as well as friends and well-wishers of Teso, to partake in this noble fundraising campaign.
Every contribution—big or small—will bring the Iteso community one step closer to realizing the dream of Ere Iteso.
A Call for Unity and Participation
This ceremony marks not only the beginning of a physical structure but also the strengthening of unity, cultural pride, and identity among the Iteso people worldwide.
All Iteso sons and daughters, cultural leaders, development partners, and well-wishers are warmly encouraged to attend the ceremony and support this historic initiative.
Together, we can build Ere Iteso, a lasting symbol of heritage, unity, and pride for generations to come.
“Together in preserving and promoting the heritage of the Iteso people.” 🌍
